Arnaud Soubeyran Nougat

ARNAUD SOUBEYRAN, the origins of which date back to 1837 starting with the marriage between talented confectioner Mr. Arnaud and Miss Soubeyran, is the most ancient producer of traditional nougats in Montélimar, France.  Run by the family’s third generation, the firm has nowadays broadened its range of confectionery and shares its know-how within the charming atmosphere of a museum entirely dedicated to nougat.

For 15 years, ARNAUD SOUBEYRAN has packaged its Nougats, Calissons, Marshmallow and Pralineswith three Schib Flow Wrappers and it has just recently purchased its fourth Schib, a new CO 50 that will soon be installed. The CO50’s rotary motion twin jaws, operated by 3-axis drive technology, will allow speeds of up to 200 ppm. The machine is equipped with motorized film pre-feed, reel run out sensor, pre-printed film registration, and many other options.

Originally brown in color, made of honey, spices and walnuts, ‘Nux Gatum’ has spanned centuries from the ancient times up to present days.  Its journey from the East to Greece led it to Marseille where it set in under the name of ‘Nougat’ in the XVII century, among the 13 most typical Provencal desserts.  By going up the Rhône, a determining stop in Montélimar changed the brown color of this home-made confectionery into the white one and the walnuts into almonds. Widely exported and appreciated all around the world, this popular and nice delicacy connected to the memories of festivals and holidays still remains a Provencal sweet that cannot be forgotten once tasted.

Integrated Packaging Lines Weigh and Bag Various Types of Cereals

Santiveri Healthy Food and Natural Alternative MedicineIn 1885, a young man named Jaime Santiveri in Barcelona, Spain was diagnosed with a severe lung disease. He tried every type of medicine available in the market at the time. The only option was to try a natural, alternative medicine and luckily for him, it was the right solution. With a healthy lifestyle and alternative medicine, Jaime Santiveri was able to successfully recover from the disease. So in 1914 he opened his first factory in Spain, where he produced his own products and the company has never stopped since.

Today, Santiveri S.L. packs various types of genuine and healthy products. Cereals and bakery products are weighed and bagged on  Hayssen Logic 35 vertical form fill seal machines. The packaging line is equipped with special accessories for creating stand-up  quad bags, ranging in size from 100g to 1Kg. In order to make perfect bags, the VFFS includes a nip drive metering roll, heated plate system and updated quad sealing system. The end result is a perfectly sealed and formed quad bag at production rates of more than 40 bags per minute. The nip roller system simplifies and secures the film movement avoiding film slip while increasing speed, as well as extending the life of silicone pull belts.

The customer visited Hayssen’s Italian factory in Padova and tested the Logic machine before it shipped to Spain. Forno Miotti TartsItalian-based Forno Miotti is a family-owned bakery established near Padua by Cesare Miotti back in 1930. The company, currently run by Cesare’s grandchildren Ferdinando and Luca Tabaschi, has been producing delicious bakery products with the same passion and care its founder had in the past. Forno Miotti’s specialties are artisanal fruit tarts, full of flavor and fragrance, like homemade cakes.

To support the growing demand for these little bites of heaven, Forno Miotti has just recently installed a Schib CO50 packaging machine.

T.Wilson and Sons (Farmers) Ltd, a family-run business in Merseyside, England, farms a wide variety of high quality fresh produce. In order to pack all their fresh products, T.Wilson relied once again on Hayssen Flexible Systems’ technology, specifically a Simionato Logic vertical packaging machine.

During the Pre-Dispatch Inspection, Rob Wilson explained his decision to buy the Logic bag maker, “I need a machine that is easy to use and when switched on, it just works. This is what I will get with the Simionato Logic 35 bagger. It is a simple machine, versatile and long lasting.”Logic VFFS

The customer’s existing weighing system feeds the Hayssen vertical packaging machine with fresh carrots. The carrots then fall into a custom-made cone and a forming tube. The tube has a shatterproof mechanism, which eliminates any problems related to film breakage during the product flow.

Southern Salads Continuous Motion PackagingSouthern Salads, based in Kent in the UK has recently installed two Novus 350s to pack their Iceberg lettuce and other leaves. This installation is part of a major investment in their processing and packing facility.

Southern Salads is a hugely successful family run business. Starting life off in markets in London, CEO & founder Ray Boakes developed the business by supplying shredded lettuce to multinational high street restaurant chains and has continued to serve this market ever since.

Southern Salads is a long-standing Hayssen Flexible Systems’ customer who utilise several intermittentSandiacre TG 320 machines to pack their products. When they decided to move forward with continuous motion packing, it was a logical move to choose Hayssen Flexible Systems’ machinery. Their new Novus produce specification machines have been specifically designed to improve speeds, pack integrity and decrease maintenance and servicing costs against current machines.

The unique product stager device prevents product from getting into the end seals and the Novus’ Quali-seal jaws offer extended sealing times and increased pack seal integrity. The Novus’s independent bag squeezer reduces oxygen levels in the bag, while the gas flushing feature slows down bacterial growth, increasing the longevity of the product’s shelf life. “Hayssen Flexible Systems’ ability to supply machines with a guaranteed increase in output and seal integrity was a key decision making factor to help us better serve our customers,” says Andrew Boakes, Managing Director at Southern Salads.

Five Star Fish, part of the 2 Sisters Food Group, is a primary and secondary whitefish processor specialising in a wide range of bespoke fish products, for the catering and foodservice market. Their products consist of fresh fish products,IQF, breaded and battered fish. Five Star Fish

Mike Samphire, Engineering Manager at Five Star Fish, was delighted with their new Aura VFFS machines, the installation and performance.

“The install and commissioning phase went well and according to plan, which meant there was no disruption to our overall production requirements. With Hayssen Flexible Systems’ help we were able to find the ideal full technical solution to suit our budget,” comments Mike Samphire.

As part of the project, Hayssen Flexible Systems offered Five Star Fish a pre-shipment inspection and operator familiarisation, allowing them to review the machines prior to arrival on site.

“We had regular communication with Hayssen Flexible Systems’ project management team throughout the entire order process, keeping us up to date with what was happening with our systems during the entire manufacturing process. The support from customer services, including the availability of spares from Nottingham was a definite bonus for us.”

Due to production demands, Five Star Fish needed their new machines a week earlier than originally expected. Hayssen Flexible Systems was able to meet this late request and achieved the early delivery. The Aura 450LF VFFS intermittent packaging machines complete with Yamato weighers were installed in two days over a weekend, enabling production to catch up the backlog after the first shift, thereby ensuring that there was no disruption.

Five Star Fish’s Aura 450LFs are currently on site packing pillow packs of IQF breaded fish fillets at various weights ranging from 220g – 2700g at speeds of approximately 60ppm.

Goji Berries from ULSTAR Packaging in High-Quality Bags

“Goji berries strengthen the body and give long life,” says a Chinese medicine saying. ULSTAR, a company in Lana, Italy packages these berries, also considered the “fruit of well-being” as well as high quality cranberries and natural juices. ULSTAR is a wholesale company utilizing the latest technology packing system made by Hayssen Flexible Systems.

The complete packaging line includes infeed conveyor, Simionato multihead weigher RCW8B15Simionato Logic 35 packaging machine and a combined checkweigher with metal detector. The line is installed in a controlled atmosphere to ensure quality and safety of the product.

The Simionato RCW 8B15 weigher has a technology called “boost” that ensures high weighing accuracy and high speed. The multihead weigher is connected to the Simionato Logic 35 packaging machine, in which ULSTAR produces 4-side-sealed block bottom bags.

Thanks to the full system’s flexibility, ULSTAR has the option to pack different types of products, from high to low viscosity. ULSTAR can easily change recipes to produce “tailored” packages for third parties. “Yes, we are very happy with the investment. It is our first Simionato packaging machine and is doing its job every day!” says Rainhard Oberkofler, manager at Ulker.

The Schib automatic packaging line at MercaSID is capable of running up to 300 packs per minute.

It features a tilting system for the distribution of the incoming rows of products. This module, that comes complete with a product aligning system, sees to separating, aligning and distributing the Plum Cake rows that arrives from the processing line. After this station, a suitable conveying system that includes a 90° curve advance the Plum Cakes towards an electronic in-line feeder that regulates the product flow and feeds a servo driven flow wrapper. A Rockwell Allen-Bradley platform controls the entire packaging cycle.

 

The UK’s leading supplier of dried fruits, nuts and seeds, Whitworths, has recently purchased Hayssen Flexible Systems’ Novus VFFS continuous motion packaging machine. This is the second machine that Whitworths has purchased in the space of 12 months.

Whitworths was established 125 years ago in the UK and is a widely recognised brand, offering products for snacking, as well as baking purposes. The company started off as a flour producer and throughout the years has expanded to producing dried fruit and nuts.

Whitworths’ first machine was purchased to improve the output at which Whitworths was packing bags of dried fruits. Due to increased customer demand, Whitworths needed a new machine for their additional nut packing line and decided to opt for another Novus 350. Whitworths has worked with Sandiacre’s intermittent machines for a number of years and has been impressed with the reliability of their machines. During Interpack, they visited the Bary-Wehmiller stand and decided to purchase the Novus demonstration machine on a short lead time.

Whitworths, based in Wellingborough in the UK, was impressed with both the machine layout and the Novus’ flexibility to produce pillow, quad and Doy packs. The machine layout of Whitworths’ machine, allows easier accessibility to the operator interface, thereby enabling the operator to switch between the machine’s different features with ease.

According to Sean Cornes, Engineering Manager at Whitworths, the simplicity and ease of maintenance of the Novus have significantly assisted their production. Sean Cornes, commented, “The Novus machine has helped us to increase our productivity in the packaging of our fruit, nuts and seed products. It is easy to operate and customer support is always available from Hayssen Flexible Systems.”
